The Idea

OIL DRUM ART is a community arts project that entails painting on recycled 55 gallon oil drums using themes of ecosystems, energy conservation, world peace and the environment. By painting scenes of a healthy, peaceful environment on the container of the thing that pollutes the world the most, which is oil, we make an artistic statement. The oil drums then become pieces of art that can be used in the community as recycling containers. I plan to purchase 10 oil drums and bring them out to an outdoor community event. There, people who come to the event will be able to participate in the painting of the oil drums. Each drum will have a theme, such as "The Ocean, Woodlands, Wetlands, Meadows, etc," so participants will know what to include in their painting. The oil drums will become collages, with a final touch by myself, a working artist, to make them look bright and attractive. Funds will be used to purchase cleaned, primed, recycled oil drums, paint and other supplies.

This project will take place in Brattleboro, Vermont. This community is very environmentally minded, peace loving and has a huge population of artists.

I would use the grant money between July 2012 and September 2012.

The Oil Drums would be placed out in the community as a reminder of the goals of Climate Movement.

Is your project a new idea, or was it initiated after November 2011?: Idea is new in VT
