Too rarely do high-school youths seriously involve themselves in the climate movement. When involvement does occur, it is generally not sustained; rather, it is intermittent and noncommittal (e.g., participate in a festival, or weekend clean-up). By hosting a city-wide, high school talent show with performances required to be climate-themed, participating youths will actively and thoroughly infuse the international climate movement with their own creative passions. Indeed, the most sustained commitments arise from interdisciplinary and thoughtful innovation on the part of participants. Students will learn how their talents can express the joy, hope, strife, and yearning of the climate movement. The funding from 350.org and GOOD would be used to purchase large prizes (e.g. Gift Cards) to the top 5 or so acts. This idea uses a financial incentive to stimulate interest in participation, then encourages the more useful currency of youthful innovation.
