The Idea

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is an environmental & adventure film festival based in Nevada City, CA - a small sweet town on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mtn's. With this money we would create a "Bicycle Ride-In Theater" this fall (our festival happens in January). Here's the idea: people would ride their bikes to a temporary outdoor theater. There they would find information about climate change, what's happening locally regarding solutions, live music, a celebration of bicycle culture, and of course, a film about climate change. We would partner with the local bike group, the high school environmental club, air quality organization, and others to provide information and ideas.

Nevada City, CA is an old mining town turned eclectic community. Though we have a fairly temperate climate, not many people ride their bicycles for transportation. This event would promote bicycling as one solution to climate change.

The event would take place during a weekend in September, 2012.

By showing that cycling is a fun & viable means of transportation & directly linking it to climate.

Is your project a new idea, or was it initiated after November 2011?: This is a new idea.

If any town can make this happen, it's Nevada City.
